FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
At Aurora, many families start with the same practical questions. Here are a few quick answers to help you get oriented.
What is ABA?
ABA, or Applied Behavior Analysis, is an evidence-based approach for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. ABA focuses on teaching meaningful skills and working toward individualized goals that matter in day-to-day life. If you’d like a deeper overview, you can explore our “What is ABA” resource in the Resources section.
Do you offer ASD diagnostic services?
Aurora Autism Centers does not offer diagnostic testing for Autism Spectrum Disorder. If you are seeking an evaluation, our team can point you toward trusted local providers and resources.
Where can services take place?
ABA services may be provided in the home, in the community, and/or at our center. Service location and recommended hours are determined through a collaborative intake and assessment process. Speech and Occupational Therapy are offered in the center setting. In some cases, clinicians may also support a child consistently in preschool or daycare environments when clinically appropriate.
How many hours per week will my child be in therapy?
Programs commonly range from about 10–40 hours per week of direct care, based on the child’s needs. Sessions are often scheduled in blocks of two to six hours, and therapy may occur across multiple days each week.
Who will be working with my child?
Your child’s team may include:
Behavior Analysts / Licensed Behavior Specialists who create and supervise the individualized ABA plan and update goals as progress is monitored.
Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) / Behavior Technicians who deliver day-to-day ABA sessions following the plan.
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) who coordinate speech and language goals with the ABA and OT team and communicate progress with families.
Occupational Therapists (OTs) who develop OT goals, coordinate with the wider team, and share home-support strategies to help skills carry over across environments.
Do you take insurance / accept Medicaid?
Aurora accepts most major commercial insurance plans. We’ll complete a benefits review and walk you through any potential out-of-pocket costs before services begin. Aurora does not currently process Medicaid plans for coverage.
Does my child need to have Autism to receive ABA Therapy?
A formal diagnosis is not required to start services. However, many insurance plans only authorize ABA coverage when there is a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our intake team can help you understand your plan’s requirements.
Do you have a waitlist?
Aurora will always share expected start timelines during registration. In many cases, services begin within a few weeks, though timing can vary based on staffing and scheduling needs.
Do you offer translation services?
Yes - translation support is available upon request so families can access care and information comfortably.
What is your policy surrounding diversity and ethical practices?
Aurora Autism Centers is committed to ethical, family-informed care and follows all BCBA ethical standards. Concerns about ethics or conflicts of interest can be directed to our Ethics Officer. Ethical issues may also be reported through appropriate professional organizations. We value diversity, equity, and inclusion, and staff complete ongoing training to support these principles in practice.
Do you provide any financial resources for families?
Aurora offers a hardship support option for families who may need financial assistance, and our Resources page includes links to grants or scholarships that many families find helpful. Our team can walk you through what may be available.
